Support - FAQ

Is a fiberglass or a polycarbonate helmet better for me?

Both the polycarbonate composite matrix helmets and the fiberglass helmets comply with the exact same standards - DOT and/or Snell (EXO-900 & 750 DOT/ECE). These are "pass-fail" standards and do not reflect any continuum or graduated level of compliance. No one can tell (or guarantee) you one will be any safer with one or the other in an accident.

What is the weight of your helmet compared to other?

Our helmets weigh comparably to the competition. There may be some variation during the production run of a few grams here and there, but this is virtually imperceptible by the rider. Traditionally the fiberglass helmets will weigh a few ounces less than the polycarbonate helmets and for this reason may be preferable to some riders.

Can I get replacement parts for my helmet if I need them?

All the spare parts are available to you from either you local dealer or directly from Fulmer.

How do I remove the headliner and cheek pads?

Place helmet upside down in your lap or on a soft towel to prevent scratching the finish. Three snaps hold in each cheek pad. Reach in and grab from the top and pull each snap outward. Once the pad is free from the snaps, pull out and repeat on the other side. To remove the head liner detach the snaps in the back, by reaching in and pulling outward. Now move to the front of the head liner. Gently pull out and the liner is free. To install, reverse the steps.

Do the replacement shields come with anti–fog like the standard shield?

Fulmer makes select replacement shields with build in anti-fog, they are available in clear and smoke for the D5, N3, J5, and M1 helmets.

How can I be sure that my helmet fits properly?

The only way to know if a helmet fits properly is to put it on your head. Expand the helmet opening by pulling outwards on each chinstrap, and slide your head into the helmet. Pull the chinstraps only, not the chinstrap covers, as pulling on the covers may rip them. If the helmet is not tight, it is too big for you. If you are unfamiliar with helmets you may be reluctant to pull the helmet down, as it may feel too tight. Even if the helmet is difficult to put on, please use the smallest helmet possible. The helmet should feel snug, but not painful.

1. A helmet should be snug but not too tight and the chin strap securely fastened as tightly as possible without being uncomfortable.

2. Once your Fulmer helmet is seated comfortably on your head, thread the chin strap through the D-rings and pull it comfortably tight. Position the strap well back against your throat. Again be sure the strap is always positioned well against your throat. It should be tight enough so that you cannot place your fingers between the strap and your throat.

3. With the helmet securely fastened, move the helmet side to side, then up and down to insure that your skin movement is the same as that of the helmet. This check can be done with the use of a mirror or with another person observing.

4. Finally, with the helmet securely fastened, as described above, attempt to roll the helmet forward off your head by firmly pulling upward on the rear of the helmet. You should not be able to remove a correctly fitting helmet in this manner.

If the helmet passes these tests, it is the correct fit for you. However, before any other person wears your helmet, he or she should also make sure that it passes the same tests.
